The entire product relies on a chain of trust: the SEC's approval, the custodian's security, the audit framework, and the redemption mechanics. None of those things touch the Bitcoin network. They touch a spreadsheet.
Scale kills decentralization. That is not a slogan; it is a mechanism. The more Bitcoin that migrates into ETF custody, the more the asset's supply is controlled by a shrinking list of institutional gatekeepers. The ETF does not add nodes. It does not add users. It does not add self-custody. It moves ownership from a key you control to a claim you file. The claim can be paused, frozen, or delayed by actors who don't read the Bitcoin whitepaper.
Now let's size the $604 million honestly. Daily Bitcoin spot volume routinely exceeds $10 billion in active months. The ETF inflow is a fraction of that. I want to know whether BlackRock's holdings are climbing faster than the rate at which new on-chain wallets are being created and used. If they are, then the network's user base is not expanding. I didn't buy the 2017 scalability consensus. I didn't buy the 2020 yield consensus. I didn't buy the 2021 NFT scarcity consensus. And I am not buying the 2025 "ETF inflows equal adoption" consensus. The $604 million is real. But it is a statement about where money has been, not where it is heading.
The next bear market will not start with a wallet hack or a protocol bug. It will start with an ETF outflow number that looks harmless for three days, accelerates on day four, and proves that the door used for entry had a second direction.
